On that day of Pentecost, as the Holy Spirit moved
'like a
mighty wind' through the early Christian community, lives changed in an instant.
In August of last year, in the Central Gulf region horrific winds and waves of
nature changed hundreds of thousands of lives. Homes were destroyed. Businesses
were uprooted. Churches were leveled. Congregations were scattered.
In Christian response to these tragedies, Triangle Presbyterian Church has
formulated a plan to assist select churches in areas affected by Hurricane
Katrina. Members of the TPC Congregation met as a Hurricane Emergency Response
Task Force to initiate a plan of assistance, re-supply, reorganization, and
perhaps even rebuilding of churches that have been shattered by the tragic
natural events of August.
Work teams have gone to Slidell, La. to work with the staff and people of
Northshore Church. The intent is to come alongside the leadership of Northshore,
which had its church destroyed by the storm, and offer assistance to Pastor
Larry McEwen and the pastoral teams in the area that they deem most important to
the lives and vitality of their congregations. It's a broad target, but one that
allows the Lord to lead each of us, individually, into areas of assistance that
call on our own unique spiritual gifts.
To catch a glimpse of Northshore and what the people in Slidell have
experienced, view the "thank you" video you will find on this page.
And, if you feel a stirring to reach out personally, sign up for the next trip

The stormy winds that blew through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Texas
were destructive and strong. But the winds of the Holy Spirit, as it moves
through the lives of believers, can overcome even the greatest adversity and,
like that day in Jerusalem, can still change lives... instantly and forever.
